Logistics companies acquire clients efficiently with us
The transport and logistics sector in the Czech Republic achieves an annual turnover in the order of hundreds of billions of crowns. At the same time, it is highly competitive, which pushes logistics and forwarding companies to constantly look for new business opportunities and ways to make their operations more efficient. Many of them are helped by Intedat.
Without exaggeration, we can say that logistics companies are among the pillars of the global economy. The world is increasingly connected and companies do business with partners from all over the world, so there is a need to transport huge quantities of goods over long distances.
Logistics ensures that these goods reach their destination on time and in good order. And as e-commerce develops and customers of e-shops are more and more demanding of speed and quality of delivery, the importance of this industry grows year by year.
What is logistics?
We do not want to replace Wikipedia , so we will only briefly mention that the word “logistics” comes from the French logistique and its spiritual father is Baron Antoine-Henri Jomini, a Swiss officer and creator of military doctrines.
It is therefore not surprising that in its early days, logistics focused mainly on the issue of efficiently supplying the army with ammunition, food, weapons and soldiers.
And what is the meaning of the word “logistics” nowadays?
Logistics has long since moved beyond the world of weapons and uniforms. Among other things, today it refers to:
- the doctrine of planning and managing the flow of goods from the supplier to the customer
- a set of activities that ensure that the necessary goods are at their destination on time, in the required quantity and quality, and at a reasonable price
Logistics, forwarding, transport – what are the differences?
If you work in the field of logistics, freight forwarding or road transport yourself, you certainly know the difference between the individual terms. However, since these terms are sometimes confused (or clients are not sure which service they actually need), we present at least a short, simplified summary :
Logistics company
It offers complete services in the field of transport and storage of goods. Coordinates and ensures the entire process from sender to recipient, including:
- assembly and packaging of the shipment
- route planning and optimization
- storage and handling of goods
- customs clearance
- package tracking
Logistics companies have their own infrastructure, including warehouses and means of transport.
Logistics company
The forwarding company does not carry out the transport itself, it only mediates it – contractually ensures it . It does not have to have its own infrastructure. He works with carriers and selects the most suitable one for the client based on his requirements.
Carrier
The carrier owns the means of transport (typically trucks, vans) and ensures the physical transportation of the goods. It usually does not provide administrative or coordination services.
If we simplify it a bit more:
- Logistics company: Provides the customer with complete transport services from A to Z.
- Forwarding company: Finds the ideal carrier for the customer and arranges everything contractually.
- Carrier: Transports goods from point A to point B.
Truck extraction – the key to success u
Logistics companies are struggling with extreme pressure to reduce margins. One of the prerequisites for success is therefore perfect planning and optimal use of transport capacities.
The largest logistics companies and smaller players are solving a fundamental question: How to reduce the number of empty trips?
Do you want proof? When you explore the most frequently searched keywords related to freight forwarding, logistics and trucking, you will come across a variety of connections such as:
- extraction of vehicles up to 3.5 t
- extracting supplies
- mining trucks
- mining trucks
- … and we could go on for a long time
Logistics companies try to achieve optimal vehicle utilization in two ways:
- using regular contracted orders
- using demand systems such as Raaltrans or TIMOCOM , through which they make available their currently free capacities
